El Siguiente by Lluis Quilez
16 minutes Barcelona, Spain All of us hide some demon inside us, we don't stop looking for him until he finds us. El Siguiente has been selected in 32 festivals and has been awarded with 7 prizes. It won best short film at the Luxembourg International Film Festival. Actor Alberto Jimenez has appeared in the films "El Bola", "Noviembre" and "Reflejos". He won best actor with this film at IV Festival International de Cine Universitario UNIACC 2004. Lluis Quilez was born in Barcelona in 1978. Lluis ended his film direction studies with a major degree from ESCAC. He has written and directed 4 short films, created and shot the main titles for "Killing The Spot" and was the assistant director of several short films. He was awarded best director for this film by the V Festival Internacional de Escuelas de Cine (Uruguay) and the el V Certamen de Cortometrajes de Lepe. Skin Tone by Eric Gerber 8 Minutes Milwaukee, WI When observing how a scar becomes part of the body, the film becomes the journal. Eric Gerber was awarded the grand prize last year for his film Aldara, he is a senior at UW Milwaukee working towards a BFA in film production. Barnyard Waltz by Julie Wolterstorff 3 minutes West Allis, WI A peculiar look at farm life. Julie is a senior at UWM majoring in film. Snapshot by Michael T Vollmann 7 minutes Milwaukee, WI Two girls prepare for their dads second wedding. Michael T Vollman is a junior at UWM perusing a BFA in film. He hopes to be a brilliant filmmaker someday. Small Study #1: The bubble on the other side of nothing/forever by Sarah Detweiler 1 minute Green Bay, WI In this short animation a female is on a bed surrounded by paper bells. The audio is reminiscent of a Cage performance. As she lies the paper bells swarm her face, collapse and leave. Sarah Detweiler earned her MFA from the University of Florida in 2003. In Florida Detweiler was part of the artist run collective called The Art Store. As an artist Dewtweiler works in photography, performance and video. Quitters by Henry Miller (contains adult language) 12 minutes New York, New York Jack and Bobby, roommates and drinking buddies enter a high stakes bet as to who can go longer without a cigarette. As the days pass the men will try anything to beat the cravings and each other. Henry Miller has directed the feature film Late Watch which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival as well as the short film I Remember You. Henry has also directed music videos for Koch and Universal. Currently, Henry is in preproduction on Anamorph, his second feature film. Spacer by Guy Roland 3 minutes Canada Spacer looks at the world through a moving camera, finding in it odd rhythms and unexpected harmonies. The immovable monuments of our times, buildings, bridges, fences and walls come alive as they reveal themselves as you've never seen them before. Guy Roland attended Concordia University from 92-95, where he completed 4 shorts in 16mm. (Autopsy, Meantime and Pacer) Guy moved to Vancouver in 98 and in 2001 began work on Spacer, he is currently planning the next installment in this series of architectural animations. The Offering by Paul Lee 10 minutes Toronto, Canada An elegiac meditation about the passing of life, told through the story of love and friendship between a Japanese Monk and the novice who entered his life, from their initial encounter to their final passing. Actor Laurance Tan has appeared in the film Johnny Mnemonic and the television series Kung Fu. Paul Lee has made two other films, Thick Lips '94 that was screened at over 100 film festivals after it's premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, and These Shoes Weren't Made For Walking '95 that won six awards and screened at over 50 festivals after it's premiere at the Sydney Film Festival. Two Will Fly by Andrew Rosas 5 minutes Milwaukee, WI One part dance, one part music, one part film. Two will fly tells the story of two animals that dream of flying to escape the forest. Andrew Rosas graduated with a major in film production and a minor in film studies from UWM. Currently he is assisting with the local production of Hamlet A.D.D.. Andrew has had work screened in our 4th, 5th and 6th festivals. A Better Life by Tate Bunker 8 minutes Milwaukee, WI A young woman endures fashion as a means to a better life. Tate Bunker is a Milwaukee Filmmaker and artist. Sore Losers by Ross Bigley OUT OF COMPETION 2 minutes Milwaukee, WI This is a preview of the feature film that just wrapped production April 24th. Sore Losers deals with the theme of being victimized either verbally, physically and by deteriorating health. We see how each character comes to terms with the situation that they find themselves in and how their actions can even create more traumatic circumstances. The main story centers on a homeowner that finds himself being blackmailed by two different parties for the same thing. Ross Bigley previewed his first feature film at the 6th festival in June of last year, this is his second feature length film and he is currently planning his third. Dirty Deeds by Kathy Fischer (contains adult content) 2 minutes Wauwatosa, WI A fake commercial where viewers are encouraged to call a service that promises to "take care of all your problems". Kathy Fischer is a local filmmaker who strives to meet the challenge of making a new short film every month. She had work shown in the 6th festival. Panacea by Diego Costa 13 minutes Milwaukee, WI (contains adult content including nudity) A sailor and an artist try to pretend that anything last long enough. Diego is a graduate student and teaching assistant in the UWM film department. It Could Happen To You by Elizabeth Henry 9 minutes Englewood, CO The great divorce. What we are left with. What still haunts us. Previous screenings were held at The New York Underground Film Festival March 05, Ms. Films Festival February 05, Flex fest October 04. Was awarded the Director's citation at the Black Maria Film and Video Festival. 2005. Elizabeth Henry has been working in film for the past nine years as a cinematographer, writer and editor. She is a film and literature professor at the University of Denver. Race by Adam Presti 4 minutes Milwaukee, WI An optically printed film concerning time and memory. Adam Presti is a recent UWM film department graduate, he is pursing opportunities in filmmaking. Cushion by Alexander Rojas (contains adult content/sexual situations) 15 minutes Chicago, Ill Anthony and Irma have had cyber-sex. Anthony and Irma have had phone-sex. Anthony and Irma are going to finally meet in person and possibly have sex. However, that involves actual touching and at times affection. With Scott T. Jones and Nicole Salm. Alexander Rojas received his B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago. There he made the award winning short KaliÕs Worries. Cushion premiered at Slamdance Film Festival and Rojas is currently working on the feature length script Cex Boy. Smart Card by James David Oxford 15 minutes Woodland Hills, CA A tale of a utopian future where every aspect of your life is integrated into one system. Everything is great for Robert Sharpe until he loses the one item he cannot do without, his "smart card". Actor David Kriegel has appeared in Leaving Las Vegas, Alive , Sleep With Me and Speed. Actor Skylar Stone is the star of Comedy Central's Con. James Oxford has worked for ten years in Hollywood films such as X men 2, Chronicles of Riddick and the new Superman.
