The Dirty Job centers on Michelle a special agent of the DSI (Demonic Supernatural Investigations), whose job is to police a demon population that co-exists unbeknownst to us on Manhattan Island. She is the best there is at what she does.
The DSI is a secret government agency with ties to the Catholic Church; formed by J. Edgar Hoover in 1967 by the insistence of Cardinal Bariner whose fear of the changing cultural fabric of our society (flower childs, summer of love) was thought to be of demonic influence. Its function was to be a branch of the FBI, it has since evolved beyond that. With Hoover's passing in 1972 (by unnatural causes?) Bariner took control of the DSI in its administrating, organizing secret agreements with demon clans plus registering and mapping out territories, keeping the demon population in Manhattan like an invisible cell. Hes the invisible hand that holds everything in place. Michelle while doing her job will find the Cardinals fingerprints are all over everything, this will cause her to watch her back for there are hidden elements within the DSI that feel she is doing too good of a job.
Like most branches of authority, nothing is black and white, and corruption is just around the corner. We will never see the offices of the DSI, because there are none. They meet in secret at restaurants, coffeehouses, bus stations and parks. There are no other females in the DSI, Michelle is it. The Catholic Church did form the unit and it has take them awhile to acknowledge women. Agents are only known by their first name: Michelle, Bob, Tom and John.
